Every week, Danielle (from Danielle’s Book Blog) and Cátia (from TheGirlWhoReadTooMuch) host a feature called Book Traveling Thursdays on Goodreads. They give you a topic each Thursday and you choose a book that you think fits. Then comes the fun part: a cover showdown! You post the original cover, the cover from your country (which I won’t be doing because the books aren’t published here), and then your favorite and least favorite cover from any edition around the world.
This week’s topic is a book that deals with mental health. I chose This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers because it deals with depression and it does it very very well. I will not get tired of recommending this book, not only for great representation, but because it’s a great book overall, it has zombies, and it begins one of my favorite opening chapters ever. Check it out on Amazon and tell me if it doesn’t hook you to the story right away. Now let’s check out the covers!
ORIGINAL AND FAVORITE COVER
The US edition is the original and my favorite because I think it gives the overall vibe that the story within is dark. I like the small splatter of blood on the corner, almost unnoticeable, and the hair covering her face. The colors and the fonts are also great!
LEAST FAVORITE COVERS
This is the cover from Hungary. I don’t get the ninja look and I don’t think that’s how Sloane looks. It makes it seem like it is a book about an assassin, which is not the case at all!
I’ve never read this book, but I can seen how the original cover conveys a sense of despair versus the other one she looks totally confident ready to take on the world.

I heard about this book. I’m pretty sure you were the one who recommended it to me (?).
Zombies & Depression? Wow, that sounds so interesting.
Lol, the Hungary cover really does make it seems like this book is about an assassin :’)

I don’t know if it was me, but I recommend this one all the time lol. The combination of zombies and depression is so good, it puts survival in a different perspective.
Haha, right? I’m glad I’m not alone on this 😛

Every time I think of this book, the first thought that pops up is zombies but you’re right, the main character does deal with depression. It freaked me out a lot more than I thought it would so that’s what I remember in my head about it, but most of her books deal with mental health which I think is pretty awesome. Have you read All the Rage?

Yeah, for me depression was the main focus, zombies were secondary 😛 I haven’t read All The Rage because I know it’s a tough subject, but I so want to at the same time. I’ve heard it’s fantastic and, after reading this one, I trust her to handle complex themes the right way!

I’ve read her book Fall for Anything, but I did not get it at all but I’ve heard super great things about All the Rage and I really want to read it soon

Interesting! I hadn’t heard of that one. But do give her another chance with All the Rage, I think she’s a good writer. Hopefully I’ll read it soon, too.

I’m not sure when I get to it but I’m hopeful that I’ll enjoy some of her other books more.

I love this feature! I’ll have to give it a go someday. I haven’t read this book. One book I love about mental illness is Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman.

Please do! It’s really fun looking at all the covers and the take of each country or publisher. I just looked up Challenger Deep and it sounds very good, I added it to my TBR. Thanks for mentioning it 🙂
