Every week, Danielle (from Danielle’s Book Blog) and Cátia (from TheGirlWhoReadTooMuch) host a feature called Book Traveling Thursdays on Goodreads. They give you a topic each Thursday and you choose a book that you think fits. Then comes the fun part: a cover showdown! You post the original cover, the cover from your country (which I won’t be doing because the books aren’t published here), and then your favorite and least favorite cover from any edition around the world.
This week’s topic is a book from one of my favorite genres. I went with classics, even though I haven’t read as many as I would like to. The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka is one that I remember enjoying a bunch of years ago and that I keep thinking about. So, let’s check out the covers!
ORIGINAL COVER
I believe this is the original German cover. It’s okay, but I think the story gives room to so many creative covers that I can’t say it’s one of my favorites.
FAVORITE COVERS
The one on the left is the US cover and the one on the right is from Turkey. Both are amazing and the sort of creativity I was mentioning before. It spells the title by showing the insect that represents the novel so well. The US cover is my favorite the letters have beautiful intricate details.
LEAST FAVORITE COVERS
On the left we have the Croatian edition, which I don’t like because of its comical colors. On the right the one from Italy. I have favorite bad covers and I have to say that the Italian one is one of them. I mean, it’s hilarious! The guy’s head and ONLY the head is coming out of an egg. It makes no sense and I love that I found it through this feature. It just makes me laugh.
Your choices of favorite covers are amazing!

Love the covers you chose, and agree with the ones you didn’t like! I haven’t read this book yet though. 😂

😀 Glad you agree. I had a (*cough* very snobby, ridiculous, and pretentious *cough*) Kafka phase during my teens and wanted to read everything by him, but never actually did lmao🙈 I did enjoyed his writing though! So definitely recommend this one.

Don’t worry, we all had a pretentious phase. I think mine was using quotes as my MSN status though – SO cringey when I look back. 😫

Hahaha, right?! Let’s just say we’ve grown and learned from that 😛

Hahahaha, I can’t believe you spotted Croatian edition here! Fun fact: I read that story in that same edition!
What can I say, we Croatians never had beautiful covers, especially for those books we had to read in school…

Really!? Hahaha, what a coincidence! I don’t think it’s that bad, but the colors are so happy for such a grim tale that I don’t think they go well together 😛
I think all mandatory reads for school have the worst, most boring covers. It’s almost like they don’t want us to read in school 😑

Exactly, as the fact that you MUST read it isn’t enough. My bff and I made fun of those ppl and their faces on this cover all the time. But tbh, it was one of rare books we both actually read. We were good at skipping mendatory reads.

Hahaha, I can imagine. Well, it’s short and weird. It’s the sort of thing one would read in school without getting bored, right? I actually read it on my own after school and truly enjoyed it 🙂

Ohh, I didn’t see this comment before. I just commented on your blog 😀
I’m glad you liked that one, too. It’s so cool, I’d love to own that edition for sure!
