Every week, Danielle (from Danielle’s Book Blog) and Cátia (from TheGirlWhoReadTooMuch) host a feature called Book Traveling Thursdays on Goodreads. They give you a topic each Thursday and you choose a book that you think fits. Then comes the fun part: a cover showdown! You post the original cover, the cover from your country (which I won’t be doing because the books aren’t published here), and then your favorite and least favorite cover from any edition around the world.
This week’s topic is a book that makes you think about traveling. For this I decided to go with Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne because, even though I’m not a fan of it, it literally features traveling around the globe! Also, it’s got a bunch of covers, so let’s check some out.
ORIGINAL COVER
The original French edition from 1873 is pretty fancy. I love the overall look and the patterns, it’s quite beautiful and the font is gorgeous!
FAVORITE COVERS
From left to right: UK, US (Kindle), US, Vietnam. I think all of these represent the story quite well. I like the designs and illustrations in all of these, they are all very creative in their own way. The first one has a lovely font and shows many elements from the book. I really like how the circle represents both the world and a compass. The second one also has a font that I like and the number 80 is made up by the compass and the silhouette of the 8. The third one is so ingenious with the monocle being the hot air balloon! And the last one is quite striking if you look at all the details up-close, but I wish it had a few more colors and not just orange.
LEAST FAVORITE COVERS
From left to right: Spain, the US, the Netherlands, Serbia. What can I say? These have creepy or unnecessary illustrations and pictures that have nothing to do with the story.
This is a book that I have always wanted to read but never gotten around to it. The French edition is beautiful and I love all your FAVORITES! 🙂

In my opinion Puffin Classic edition is the best and that one with a leaf is just… no!
The one with elephant is also cute. I mean the orange one.

I was going to say that was my favorite too, but then I couldn’t really decide 😛

I thought of this one too, but decided to stick with Anna and the King of Siam! Great pick! I like the US black and white one the most. Here’s my BTT: http://marelithalkink.blogspot.co.za/2016/08/book-traveling-thursdays-2.html

It really is and I looked it up and he had all novels from his Voyages Extraordinaires in this sort of edition ❤ They look incredible together.

When they are good they are very very good, but when they are bad they are horrid! I only finally read this book a year or two ago, and enjoyed it a lot. 🙂

Hahah you’re so right! I read this one after Journey to the Centre of the Earth and I was a bit disappointed. I really enjoyed Journey at the time and I felt the characters were more alive.

I LOVE the original cover and all the covers you like as well 🙂 But the original one is still my favourite!!! 😀

Haha the Spanish one (well, it’s in Catalan actually) is awful, you’re right. I’m ashamed for my country’s edition XD

Haha it truly is. It’s nice to see a blogger from Spain 😀 I have the nationality, but I’ve never even visited 😦

Do you have the nationality? 😱 Awesome! I live in Barcelona, you should definitely visit 😃

Yes! All my family is from Spain, except the younger generations. I want to live there in the future, so Barcelona is a MUST. It looks beautiful.

I love the French cover, but my favorite is the UK cover. I should read this, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

I haven’t read this but I love the cover with the top hat. It’s very classy. I do not like the pink cover with the movie reel at all. Very lazy cover design.

And it has nothing to do with films, so it’s not only lazy but senseless 😦 But I’m glad there were some cool cover too, like the hop hat one.

Per usual, your favorite covers are GORGEOUS and your least favorite covers are laughably awful! WHO DESIGNS THOSE THINGS and thinks it’s a good idea?!

Hahaha I KNOW, I don’t get it. It kills me to think of designers who could do it better but don’t get the job!

Wow most of the covers are so pretty!!! I especially love the one that looks like a compass ❤

This is a cool feature I’ve never heard of before! I love the idea of featuring the different covers! I have this book to read. The BF gave it to me because he said it would take me like 15 minutes to read. Haha. I started it, but I don’t really love it. The original cover of this book is so pretty! All of those covers that you picked as your favorite are fantastic! I might have to try this feature someday. The book I think of immediately when I think of traveling is The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken because it’s about a road trip! And it’s my favorite and I answer with it for everything. 🙂 Great post!

I can’t belive I haven’t read a road trip book, it’s so weird! I’ll be checking that one on Goodreads 😀 I hope you do try this feature, it’s so fun. The book is honestly not very good. As a kid, I liked reading about the whole traveling thing, but when I remember some things, I think it was a bit problematic (I think misogynistic and racist? But I can’t be sure, I don’t remember that well).
