Book Traveling Thursdays: A sequel I loved

Every week, Danielle (from Danielle’s Book Blog) and Cátia (from TheGirlWhoReadTooMuch) host a feature called Book Traveling Thursdays on Goodreads. They give you a topic each Thursday and you choose a book that you think fits. Then comes the fun part: a cover showdown! You post the original cover, the cover from your country (which I won’t be doing because the books aren’t published here), and then your favorite and least favorite cover from any edition around the world.

This week’s topic is favorite sequel, but I look at it more like a sequel that I loved. I chose The Subtle Knife, from the trilogy His Dark Materials (I talked about the first book here). I really liked the first one, but the second book was were Will, the second main character, was introduced and the story really found its way. Let’s check out the covers!

ORIGINAL COVER

Here’s the original UK cover. As with the first one, I find it so strange that they didn’t include the name of the author nor the title of the book in the actual cover. It’s cool, though! I love the colors.

FAVORITE COVERS

   

Both covers are from the US, I believe. The one of the left is my favorite. I would love to have that collection because the colors plus the faces of the animals on top of each cover are stunning! I love that each one has a predominant color. The same goes for the cover on the right, which I failed to include in the Book Traveling Thursday featuring The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials #1). That one was blue and awesome too. I love the details in the illustration.

LEAST FAVORITE COVERS

      

On the left is the Portuguese cover. the one in the center is Russia, and the one on the right is Slovakia’s.  The illustration on the Portuguese one is not good and the font and its color are terrible. The Russian one used people, which is something I really dislike most of the time, and the girl playing Lyra is absolutely nothing like her. And finally the one from Slovakia is so creepy. I’m not sure if the hand is coming from the mouth or from the side, but either eay, it’s horrible and it looks more like a horror than a fantasy novel.
